Adult Faith Formation

Print Friendly

In the end, what matters most in life is whether or not we are a friend of Jesus. But what does this mean? And what does it entail?

Our relationships depend on our behavior, and our behavior depends on what we believe to be true–rightly or wrongly, for good or for ill–and whether or not that truth (or lack thereof) has taken up its home in our hearts, shaping our desires, our motives, and what we love.

There is nothing more important, therefore, if we want to be a friend of Jesus, than to make every effort to form both our minds and our hearts according to the mind and heart of Christ.  And that is what adult faith formation is all about.  So check out what’s being offered this semester, and get involved!

Scripture Study

Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother (8 sessions): Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother is an extraordinary pilgrimage that reveals Mary’s unique role in God’s Kingdom and in our lives. Filmed on location in the Holy Land, Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother will place you in the midst of the powerful drama of her earthly life, taking you through her joys…and her sorrows. You will learn how she works in our lives today, drawing us ever closer to her Divine Son. Seeing Mary in this way will change you forever. Mary will become a part of your daily life, and in your daily life, you will become more like Christ.

  • Mondays, 7:00-9:00 pm, starts January 22, 2018, in Room 1 of the School

The Book of Wisdom (8 sessions): Note: This wonderful study is being offered once again in the spring of 2018!  Scripture and the Tradition of the Catholic Church provide an abundance of wisdom, though it can often be challenging to apply it to our lives. In this study, Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith examine biblical wisdom as it relates to daily life. Drawing on the wisdom literature of the Bible—Proverbs, Wisdom, Sirach, and Ecclesiastes—Wisdom will teach you how to actively seek out sound guidance and increase your sense of peace in navigating life. In everything from friendships to finances, from making decisions to attaining peace of mind, Scripture offers a vision for happiness and well-being. With this program, you will learn how to gather, gain, and grow in wisdom, and you will experience the joy it brings to your life.

  • Mondays, 7:00-9:00 pm, starts January 22, 2018, in the Conference Center
  • Tuesdays, 9:15-11:30 am, starts January 23, 2018, in the Conference Center. (This meeting time is for women only.)

Formation Programs

That Man Is You! (13 sessions): That Man is You! is an interactive, multimedia men’s program focused upon the development of authentic male leadership. Over the course of three years, That Man is You! successively considers men in their relationship to God, to their spouse, and to their children. The program content harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. It is particularly indebted to the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and Pope John Paul II.

  • Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm, starts January 9, 2018, in the Conference Center
  • Thursdays, 5:30-7:00 am, starts January 18, 2018, in the Conference Center

Men’s Prayer and Study Group (on-going): Join other men of the parish bright and early for fresh coffee, prayer, study & discussion, and accountability!

  • Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 am, meets all year round, in the Conference Center

33 Days to Merciful Love (6 sessions): Based on the book, 33 Days to Merciful Love, by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, this 33 Days to Merciful Love Group Retreat goes even deeper than the book alone and explores new material on the heart of St. Thérèse of Lisieux’s Little Way, uncovering the power of trust in the face of personal darkness, inspiring participants to become great saints amid ordinary circumstances, and laying the foundation for a personal consecration to Divine Mercy.

  • Wednesdays, 9:30 am – 11:00 am, starts February 21, 2018, in the Conference Center
  • Wednesdays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, starts February 21, 2018, in the Conference Center

Family Enrichment (monthly): Families often struggle to overcome the obstacles in their foundational relationships:  husbands and wives, parents and children, siblings, immediate family, and even extended family, alike, encounter seemingly insurmountable challenges. The Texas Family Enrichment program is designed precisely to equip families with the knowledge and skills both to solve these problems–and, more importantly, to prevent them before they happen.

  • Fall and Spring, course held off-site.  Registration Deadline: September 20, 2017.

Teams of Our Lady (monthly): Teams of Our Lady (TOOL) is an on-going formation program for all married couples–whether you’ve been married 1 year, 10 years, or 50 years–to form you as a couple in married spirituality. Why as a couple? Because God has entrusted you to each other through the Sacrament of Matrimony, and because when your response is made in unison, it deeply affects: the quality of your love, your children, and all whom you meet. Why with other couples? Because as a Team there is more strength. In a world where fidelity is no longer esteemed, meeting with others who value married life can bring joy and hope to all.

  • Periodic Information Sessions are offered for those who are interested in joining a Team.

Sacramental Preparation For Adults

On this page you will find information about sacramental preparation for adults:

God has given to the Church many, many resources to help us be formed in our faith and become more like His Son, Our Lord, Jesus.  Many of these resources come to us through the hands of the Church–the sacred liturgy, the seven sacraments, traditions of prayer, the writings of saints and doctors of the Church, the ministry of priests and religious, the apostolate of the laity, and so on. But there are other resources, especially now in the age of the internet, that we can take advantage of and use in our own homes.  Some of these resources we would like to share with you on this page.

This blog gives a place to share articles and videos of interest to adult faith formation.
