ACTS

An ACTS retreat is a three day and three night Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners. The retreat begins on Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday at a Mass celebrated with the parish community. Talks and activities during the retreat focus on Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service, from which the ACTS acronym is derived, and through which a new or deeper relationship with our Lord through is cultivated: Adoration – the call by, acceptance of, and response to God; Community – the love and caring of each other; Theology – the study of God through scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church; Service – to God, his people, and the parish faith community. Each retreat is conducted by a retreat “team” composed of around 36 individuals who have attended prior ACTS retreats. Chosen by the retreat Director, the team organizes the retreat, conducts the retreat talks and activities, and ministers to the needs of the retreatants during the retreat weekend. Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church are the guides for the retreats.

Women’s ACTS Retreat: October 5-8, 2017

Our St. Clare retreats begin Thursday evening around 5:00 p.m., and end with the 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Clare on Sunday. The retreat takes place at the Christian Renewal Center (CRC) in Dickinson.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the retreat is $235 per person.  This includes a double-occupancy room at the Christian Renewal Center in Dickinson, as well as eight delicious meals.  Financial assistance is available for those in need–don’t let the cost prevent you from experiencing this amazing opportunity to retreat from the world for a weekend and draw closer to God!

I’ve been on ACTS. Now what?? Consider joining the Retreat Team!

Once you’ve been on the retreat, considering serving on the Retreat Team! All ACTS sisters are invited to consider the following invitation to be on the team: For those of you who have teamed before, you are well aware of the immense blessings that are received from serving in this way and the close relationships that are developed with your ACTS sisters. For those who have never teamed, be assured that being on a retreat team has been described as being somewhat of a “glimpse of what heaven must be like.”  Coming together as willing servants, we continue to receive God’s abundant grace, His blessings, and a greater love for Him and for each other. Please pray whether God might be calling you to join us in continuing this powerful movement of the Holy Spirit.  Please don’t consider whether you are capable…as Saint Mother Teresa said, “God does not choose the qualified; He qualifies the chosen.”

If you are interested in being on the team for the October 2017 St. Clare Women’s ACTS Retreat, please contact Shelly at xxx-xxx-xxxx or michelle.m.gray1@gmail.com.

Spiritual Exercises

spiritual exercises groupThe Spiritual Exercises are a weekend silent retreat with spiritual talks and time for personal meditation in silence.  The spiritual conferences are preached by the priests of Miles Christi, according to the method and the principles of St. Ignatius of Loyola.  Apart from the conferences and time for prayer, each day there will also be Holy Mass, Holy Rosary, and opportunity for confessions.  The retreats will start on Friday at 4:00 pm and conclude on Sunday at 5:00 pm. As experience has shown throughout the centuries, the Spiritual Exercises have proven to be an excellent means of conversion and sanctification. St. Clare Silent Retreat
Next Date: Winter of 2017

Man in field

Mother Theresa said, “If you sincerely want to learn to pray, keep silent. In the silence of the heart, God speaks.” Why not take a break from the stimuli of this world for less than 24 hours—from Friday at 7:00 p.m. to Saturday at 3:00 p.m.—to let God speak to your heart? Join other St. Clare parishioners for a mini-retreat that will include short introductions to different types of silent prayer, group prayer times (in silence), and plenty of time to walk the beautiful grounds of the Villa de Matel or spend some time in one of the interesting prayer rooms inside. Meals are included.

For those who are completely new to the Ruah Center, and have never been on a Day of Prayer or an overnight Retreat there, you are asked to come on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. Once you’ve been to this Day of Prayer, then for all future retreats you’ll be able to come the night before and stay the night.

The St. Clare Silent Retreat is offered once per year, usually in the January to March time-frame. If you missed it this year, please consider joining us next year!

When: Winter of 2017…TBA

Time: 7:00 p.m. Friday to 3:00 p.m. Saturday (newcomers should arrive at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning)

Where: Ruah Center, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023 • 713-928-6053

Cost: By donation only, at the end of the retreat at the Ruah Center (or by mail-in envelope, which you will receive)

Register: Registration is not yet open for this retreat.
